Day 5: Finding Mentors

It’s exciting to step out and create something on your own. However, the reality is that while you may have a good idea, you may not know exactly what you should be doing to create a business around it.

We reached out to share our idea with people already successful in the food industry, and asked if they would be willing to mentor us. Usually, if you approach people in the right way and sincerely ask for their advice, they are happy to help.

Our mentors have already provided invaluable information, contacts, tools and resources that have shortened the learning curve and saved us from making mistakes. They are great sounding boards for ideas, able to provide evidence-based feedback, and can make the challenges feel much more achievable.

These conversations always give us a renewed sense of optimism, and confidence in knowing that when we do hit bumps in the road, help will be ready at hand.
